Allen,
I know we've talked about this off line a few times - but for the
sake of public consumption - a Japanese Twin is unlikely to shake like an
American one. My wrists do not go numb on my Yamaha V-Star 1300 Tour - and
I once put 1500 miles in a week on it.
The other thing I hate to bring up - the largest Nighthawk yet
produced is a 750. You cannot compare a 750cc inline 4 cylinder to a V-Twin
1800cc machine. The similarities stop with it being a 'motorcycle'. The
displacement difference alone makes the riding completely different and the
Torque-biased V configuration is very different from the high rpm biased
Inline configuration.
Horsepower is a number - it isn't tangible the way that torque is -
a torque heavy bike will respond INSTANTLY to throttle changes without
shifting. It FEELS faster and if you aren't going at high speeds the torque
is easier to ride with than a rev-happy inline.
MJB - I know you're a bigger dude than I am (height at least) but
I've been very satisfied with my 1300cc Yamaha - I have found that it is
almost impossible to spin the rear tire when starting - the combination of
1300cc and relatively wide rear tire means that I can use basically all my
throttle from a dead stop without losing grip. I presume the 1300 VTX is
similar but I can't say that for sure. The 1800 - well - it might be a bit
much but I have not ridden one and cannot compare. Just a thought.
