Paul, wind is a BIG problem, but he'll be going east. We hit non-stop wind from about the New Mexico border, and it got so bad in California that I had to ride my 750 in third gear for a long stretch (and my gas mileage went down into the 30s with my big windshield). It was unpleasant, to say the least. On the way back to Atlanta, though, of course there was some cross wind at times, but the stillness was almost eerie, and the gas mileage was great! Viva la tailwind!
Made the trip in 8 days both ways, so 2 weeks one way actually sounds pretty doable to me, at least on a 750. I don't know about a 250, but a lot of people on here told me I was beating myself to death on Ol' Yeller. I've yet to cross state lines on the PC800, so I don't know what that will be like. Don't know if I mentioned this before, but I broke down and bought a modular helmet the other day. I couldn't handle the wind picking up my visor any more with the 3/4. I love that piece that goes under the chin on a modular. It is quiet! With that helmet on the PC with my 5"-over windshield, I can about hear myself breathe. Loving it. How Harley riders do highway speeds with half helmets and no windshields, I don't know. I guess it's the "lifestyle." No offense to any Harley riders who might read this; to each his own, I say. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
