If you're referring to the Silver Wing budget touring bike (and not the scooter), I once met a guy who was riding one, and he said riding it was pretty awkward because of its high center of gravity. That bike was quite a sight to see though, with it's transverse mounted V-twin with the cylinders sticking out to the sides.
I agree with you about displacement inflation. My first bike was a 750cc Shadow Aero, and I've stuck with 750s. I've never felt I wanted or needed anything larger. Every once in a while someone says to me, "a big guy like you should ride a bigger bike," but I don't ride to make other people happy. I ride what I want to ride.
