Paint that I've used so far include the following...

FRAME: POR-15. You have to brush it on but it supposed to be "hammer
tough". My father turned me on to it a few years back when he started
restoring cars. It's incredibly durable paint but VERY runny. It flows and
eliminates brush marks but it's very easy to get drips. It's also about the
glossiest black you will ever find! I bought a six pack of tiny cans off of
Amazon. This paint is so adhesive and strong that it's hard to open a can
more than twice before the lid is damn near welded on. The little cans make
me feel better about wasting the small amount left in a can I've openned a
few times and can no longer get open. :)

ENGINE: PJ1 Engine and Case paint. All I did was spray a ton of degreaser
all over her, let it sit for a few minutes, and hose it off. I used a
degreaser I found in the auto area of walmart. I think it was $5 for a
gallon. It seemed to work really well. I did the 'degrease and hose off'
about 5 times. The paint is a Satin Black and is known on a lot of forums
to be a very close match for stock engine paints. It's an Epoxy paint
intended to be used on engine blocks. I think it was about $17 for one can,
which was plenty.

BODY: I used basic krylon spray paint. My first attempt was a yellow color
that just didn't have the 'retro' flavor I wanted, so I switched to 'Red
Pepper', which is a non-metallic red but has a hint of orange to it. If you
are in to old cars then you probably know the color 'hugger orange'. This
color isn't nearly as orange as that, but for some reason it reminds me of
it.

CLEAR COAT: Spraymax 2k. I know normal spray paint is not chemical
resistance enough AND it's never as hard as a 2 part paint. But a couple of
coats of the 2k clear coat and it's now impervious! This stuff isn't cheap
at $20 a can, but well worth it. There is a plunger in the bottom of the
can that releases the hardner into the paint. From there you have 24 hours
to use it before it's done. It's supposed to be the same clear you can use
in a sprayer on real cars, but comes in a handy spray can. Will you get
orange peel? Yeah, a little. But if you wet sand the base color, wet sand
the clear, and then buff it out it will come out pretty darn good. Better
than the average rattle can job? MUCH better! As good as a professional
auto body job? No, but pretty close. I think if I spent more time wet
sanding the base coat and clear coat, and if my buffing skills were better,
then I think I could get a professional finish... but I'm not there yet. :)

DECALS: Ebay! This guy in Canada makes them. My bike is a 1983, but I went
with the 1984 decals as I wanted the silver colored wings instead of the
red/orange. I didn't go with the 1985 because I wanted the script
'Nighthawk' writing instead of the block letters. This is the exact set I
bought:

They seem like high quality decals. I put them on before clearcoating.

I went to put the new acid battery in her last night and a funny thing
happened... The battery that came out was an acid battery but had the
positive terminal on the inside of the battery compartment (acid overflow
tube has to be on the outside). The new battery, when the acid overflow is
on the outside, has the negative terminal on the inside of the battery
compartment! Now I have to redo a couple of ground wires.

Also, I tried to wire up my new signals and found that I now have an issue
with my turn signal relay. They all worked before I took the bike apart but
now they don't. Key on = front running lights on. Signal switch turned to
right = right front goes out, nothing on the rear. Signal switch turned
left = left goes out, nothing on the rear.

know how to diagnose a signal relay on an '83 CB650SC? *It's possible I
just have a bad ground somewhere and the relay is fine... fingers crossed!
