you COULD run windows native on the laptop and install the free VMware 
Server (1.x and/or the JUST release 2.0.0) on the windows (as the "host") 
and then install linux as a "guest" virtual machine.  this is how I ended 
up doing it on my laptop (myriad of reasons).  therein, linux has an 
ethernet/LAN interface and vmware takes care of wired/wireless.  There are 
some caveats to this approach depending on what you are after.  But, it 
might suffice for your requirements.  Using "bridged" and/or "nat" 
networking setups, the linux guest VM can piggy back on to the internet 
through the windows just fine.  It is not totally the same as linux running 
native; again, though, depends on what you are wanting to accomplish.  In 
this scenario, you have both worlds in one.
