i am not familiar with fink ... are the fink libraries/headers in the search path? (PATH environment variable) > I don't want to mess around too much with > it, because I am scared it could break other stuff like pd compilation?? i doubt ... the last time i compiled pd, it shipped its own version of portaudio v18 and linked statically ... that might have changed, i haven't compiled pd for a long time ... > exactly! that would be very helpful. I also don't know how scons works, > I am starting to feel more familiar with configure/make. instead of running `./configure --my-fancy-argument=foo && make target`, you can run `scons my-fancy-argument=foo target' ... you lose some performance, but you gain proper dependency checking, which is basically broken with make ... scons is easier to learn and more robust than the autotools, spend 2 hours learning scons, save 2 days of headache with autotools ;) > >> also, have you looked at the new file format for max5 patches? > > > > no, but it is good to read, they _have_ a new file format ... :) > > it looks something like this, although usually in binary format. to me > this looks not bad... ah, they switched to json ... finally a proper markup language :) i am using an xml-based file format ... json or yaml have the advantage of being human-readable ... they seem to use object identifiers like "obj-X", where i am using uuids, however it is quite odd, that objects save their number of inlets and outlets ... cheers, tim -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://tim.klingt.org Who need fossil fuel when the sun ain't goin' nowhere Amiri Baraka
