We have tried Power Users but the messages still appear. It's obviously a permissions problem. Are there any tools that can monitor what files/registry keys where the permissions are not adequate? Thanks

Have you looked at what rights this group has? Just about none . . . have you tried putting the users into the power users group to see if that helps, since you don't want to put them in the local admins group? We attempted putting the user in the local administrator group, ran word, excel, access, powerpoint, binder, and outlook. As expected they all ran without a problem no installer messages and also no logging for installer. We then removed the users and logged off and back on executed the same programs and we got both msiInstaller messages in the event log and also had 2 msi logging files created (Here are the messages in both files). I also drilled down in the registry to the installer key and opened just that key to everyone full control. === Verbose logging started: 11/14/2001 9:47:13 Build type: SHIP UNICODE 1.11.2405.00 Calling process: C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe === MSI (c) (90:00): Resetting cached policy values MSI (c) (90:00): ******* RunEngine: ******* Product: {00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7} ******* Action: ******* CommandLine: REINSTALL=EXCELFiles REINSTALLMODE=pocmus MSI (c) (90:00): Client-side and UI is none or basic: Running entire install on the server. Power users, administrators? I also recommend at least temporarily putting the users into the local admins group to see if it solves your problem enough for the users to have anything needed installed. Then take them back out if you want. We are installing office 2000 (from an administrative installation point) on windows 2000. As administrator everything works fine. When we log onto the workstation as someone with user rights we get the following warnings in the event viewer: Source MsiInstaller Event ID: 1000 Failed to Connect to Server. Error: 0x80004001 And also Event ID 1001 Detection of product '{00010409-78E1-B60F-006097C998E7}' feature 'PPTFiles' failed during request for component '{CC29E98B-7BC2-1101-A921-00A0C91E2AA2}' If anyone can give me any hints, tips whatever as to the solution of this problem let me know. I have attempted the following as a fix but that didn't work: Gave everyone full control to the Microsoft Office folder under Program Files and also the Administrative installation point.
