Len,

The ROM upgrade to WM6 is not an iffy upgrade, it is fully supported and
the software was released by HTC/AT&T. It wasn't some hack released by
questionable sources (although plenty of those were around prior to the
real release, and probably still are). I upgraded mine months ago and
have had no issues with the device and I do prefer WM6 to WM5.

For the last year I have been using the Cingular 8525 - made by HTC and
very similar to the 6700. For the most part been very happy with it.
Lately I have been using the phone more and have been running out of
battery during the day and having to throw it on a charger someplace -
either in the car or on the laptop at a client site. The bluetooth
headset is pretty stable but the phone shuts it off occasionally so that
is mildly annoying at times. I do use the MS apps from time to time and
that is a good fit. My biggest complaint is the ActiveSync fails on a
regular basis and I have to delete the pointers that link them and start
the whole sync process over again. I ran Palm stuff for over 10 years
and never had sync problems - digitizer problems yes - but never sync
issues.

I received a text recently indication that I could upgrade to WM6 from
the WM5 that came with my 8525. Indications are that it is a one-way
trip and that if it fails you have to send it in to get it restored. Any
truth to that? Has anyone done that upgrade or is there a better way.
WM5 has been fine and I haven't learned of any items in WM6 that make me
in a hurry to do an iffy upgrade. Just my couple of pennies.

I'd also look at how their network(s) work in you area. I almost
switched to AT&T from Verizon until I realized that their 3G and Edge
networks are not on the same platforms. This from what I hear from other
AT&T users is the main reason sooo many experience dropped calls. How
much this is true I'm not sure, I just didn't want to take any chances
so I stayed with VZ and chose what I thought was the next thing to the
Treo, the VX6800.

IMO:

The iPhone is appealing but the timing for me sucks. I run a lot and
have a nano so one of the appealing features of the iPhone is being able
to use the NikeID, have music, and now sync with Exchange. The down side
is not being able to use my MS apps, etc. If they, Apple, market this
and other new features right they could be very successful at reaching
not only the RIM but also most of us so called die hard mobile users.

If your carrier is AT&T check out the "Tilt" it's made for them
by HTC.
