Beijing is cracking down on the motor rickshaws due to the Olympics. In
Kunming, too.

I watched a traffic cop yank a rickshaw driver down into traffic using a
long pole with a hook on it.

Well, I can tell you about driving. First, most of the vehicles of
conveyance in China have 2 wheels. But seriously, there are a lot of cars.
You need a Chinese Driver's License to drive in China, and the written test
is in Chinese. My son has a driver and a van, so I never have need to drive.
My daughter-in-law has a motor scooter. When we go to another city or
country, we take taxis. BTW, my cellphone with a Chinese simcard worked on
the Great Wall of China, 2.5 hours from Beijing!!!

Not sure I'd actually want to drive in China. Scary enough just riding.

FYI Ask your car rental place about this. In many places, you can rent SIM
Card and even Data Cards for your laptop.

The beauty is that you get them at the airport when you land :)

Anyone who travels overseas should just get an unlocked GSM phone and get a
SIM wherever they land...

Or how about why go not go with Sprint if they are cheaper than Verizon but
you get the benefit of both? :)

So, why not just go with Verizon if Sprint is using Verizon's network
anyway?

I use Verizon. Works everywhere -- never had a dropped call, never had an
instance where I couldn't get a signal. Just spent 3 weeks in China (6
different cities in 4 different provinces), and had connectivity the whole
time for cell, text, and Internet.

I spent 2.5 years with 100% travel around the US & Canada and never really
had any issues with Sprint's network. Like a previous post said, I was able
to roam on Verizon in the rare event that there wasn't a Sprint signal.

Sprint, IMO, is horrible. I can't even get a Sprint signal at my house.
But, travel about a mile either way, and it works fine. It's like that
around the country.

My wireless industry insiders say that Sprint is a bad carrier, and a
hurting company in general. Any opinions as a subscriber?

Speaking of wireless: Anyone going to CTIA? I'll be in the area for
a couple of days and I have a pass. But I'm not hanging around Las
Vegas, and will soon be mozing on over to the Grand Canyon.
