"The difference is, you can't take the SIM out of your dead Verizon

Actually, you can with a small hex screwdriver :) Great if you get
phones on ebay for spare parts, and the ESN's are 'Dirty' or bad.

They lie. It hasn't been an issue for the rest of the world. What
is Verizon doing wrong that they can't handle this security threat?
Every GSM phone and SIM have identifiers which are unique on the
planet. If something is stolen, you notify the carrier and the
problem goes away. The same thing happens if your Verizon gets stolen
-- it's just they only track the ESN, rather than the IEMI and SIM ID.
The difference is, you can't take the SIM out of your dead Verizon
phone and put it in a working phone to get back on the air.

The only security Verizon is worried about is the security of their
bottom line.

This is why I don't like Verizon. They lie to my face about
technology that's well-known. If they just admitted they're trying to
make an extra buck, I'd at least respect that as honest capitalism.
