That make sense.  The only VOIP phones I've worked with had 100 mbit
pass-thru's.

One situation goes something like this:

a) switching to VoIP
b) have only 1 ethernet port in each office/cubicle (serious mistake
there - ALWAYS run more than what you need)
c) *need* gigabit on the desktop
d) also going with gigabit VoIP phones (like a Polycom SoundPoint IP 560
or Cisco CP-7941G-GE/CP-7961G-GE/CP-7971G-GE)
