That's always been an issue. I have two Macs personally. The Mac Mini required about 700MB in updates when I brought it home from the shop. And that was two years ago. Nothing has changed - you still need to install hundreds of MB of patches every month or two. Macs have some good features, but I always laugh at Mac users who say that Windows users have to download so many patches.
