I don't really think the pipe thing matters - you can get stuff from Microsoft just as fast. What I don't understand is why updates for an application require 50-100MB patches. But no matter - that's what Apple's choosen to do. As I said - what I find amusing is Apple people laughing at Windows users about the number or size of patches that Windows users need to install. The average Windows user probably needs to install 5-10MB/month + 150-300MB every other year when a service pack comes out. Mac users need to install 100MB month, and then some extra when the next .0.1 release comes out.
Oh, and not everyone is based in the US or Europe where such fast pipes exist.
