Funny.. .I've been able to run as non-admin on NT as a platform for 15+ years 
now.

If you want to talk application behavior, I'll concede that many folks, MS 
included, needed to get their act together, which they have. But the OP was 
comparing to Win7, so what the situation was 5 years ago is immaterial.
