Reminds me of some (OLD!) Square D Topaz UPSes we had YEARS ago and I decided 
to take it upon myself to replace the batteries. I was successful, however not 
without slicing the crap out of my hand on the metal chassis.

They were not meant to be field serviceable, that's for sure...

  Really.  Can I ask what models/lines?  Maybe four years ago, we came
into possession of a couple of their cheap consumer UPSes.  They were
crap.  Now, everybody's cheap consumer UPSes are crap, but CyperPower
was especially craptacular.  The batteries weren't designed to
replaceable, and when we opened one anyway to try, the power switch
sprung apart into several pieces; if you wanted to connect to USB you
had to send away for a serial-to-USB adapter dongle.
