I am curious to see if pushed hard how many useful widgets can be built quickly
using the Widget SDK. The University of Amsterdam had one student write 4
widgets in quick order including a Spreadsheet widget and an Exhibits widget.
Widget building could be a nucleation point for contrib effort outside the core
team. If you want to build a wider community this is an effective place to
quench an initial thirst. Good also for Proof Of Concepts.

Subject: Re: [oae-dev] Assignment and Gradebook for OAE

I think one has to separate the project vision from how it is trying
to respond to a dramatic loss of contributing partners. When you go
from 6 contributing organizations to 2 in a matter of weeks, you have
to make decisions that cut to the bone.

The loss has been severe, but the silver lining is the hope that
better success might be found with a tighter, narrower focus. The
pivotal question remaining: is there enough value in what's already
been produced that it's worth continuing to invest resources to build
from that core, even if it's not going to displace our LMS any time
soon? Put in other terms, is there a smaller product that is both
viable (assuming much less contributed resource) and yet still
valuable for learning? This is what the team is working hard on now.

Speaking just for myself, and Georgia Tech's perspective, it's still
our aim that the OAE support assigned work and the ability to provide
feedback (including that specialized kind of feedback that comes in
the form of grades). We still see a path for seeing those realized,
and haven't given up on them.

But I think it's no longer on anyone's radar that the OAE will replace
the CLE. Whatever collaboration rallies around it, I think it will not
be on those terms.
