Have you tried taking close look at your rear hub. I had a problem with
breaking spokes (drive side) and breaking rear axles (one to two per
season) on my beater. I weigh 140 lbs (soaking wet, 150 with my backpack).
Took a good look at the rear hub (old Shimano Via 6 speed) and found that
it was cracked. Replaced it last season with an old Shimano 600 six speed
and a 36 hole Mavic T221 and have had no problem since (around 8000 km and
counting).
