Bev, What's the matter? It's not like you to have such a tone on you and to be making sweeping general statements like that. Bars and restaurants are not liquor holes? Where are you living? How can you blame bars for dispensing alcohol - where you thinking down the lines of prohibition? People make their choices, people BUY the alcohol, and of course they have a right to buy wherever and whenever they want. It's even ridiculous and soooo 1950's to not allow sales on weekends and public holidays. I mean please, that is such an antiquated law anyway, unheard of in e.g Germany. Lion Bar made an EFFORT to address potential problems in advance - and if you check out their Facebook site (just google Lionbar, you will land up there quickly) you'll see that we are even talking a more upmarket bar and restaurant - so come on they are hardly going to be defacating on the pavement. Anyway, if that ever happened, that must sure have been the exception and how do you know it was a patron or not a homeless person? By the way, are the public toilets also locked up, do we need to go to the library to buy a key for that, too? Obs is Obs, there will always be a nightlife here for students - hell, it's advertised on the Internet as a funky, ecclectic place for foreign students INCLUDING a nightlife. If anyone really breaks laws - well let the system deal with it. Realistically that is the only way to deal with anything, no one wants cowboys out there. It's the country you live in, you voted for. Easy as that. Everyone is free and nobody gets discriminated against - that's how it is. There's always other countries to go to - who wanted pubs like in the UK in Obs? - Well, that also ain't gonna happen, this is Africa and not the Cotswolds or Dublin. Just let people go by their business, be happy that someone is investing in this run-down suburb without keys and rules and signs and you should know better than to start flaming red rows on this moderated list. That's my job anyway, to throw a cat amoungst the pigeons here, not yours. Bev, relax, and don't judge them beforehand. You don't have to be a goodie two shoes or PC to know that.
