Really should move this to comp.os.linux.advocacy but...

I would _not_ want to put money on it as if one thing has come out of
the DOJ trial it is that
a) MS don't like competition
b) MS are starting to see OpenSource as competition.
c) They know how to nobble competition rather effectively (see the
Halloween docs).
I think OpenSource OS's has already 'wacked great holes' in NT sales. I
saw one estimate that Linux/OpenBSD etc had about 40% of the NTS
installations, and was growing faster. Given that MS make a lot of dosh
out of NTS sales that has already got to be a sore point with MS.
As for workstations - might depend if MS can iron out those last 40,000
bugs out of Win2000 before release... <g>

Easy - just buy a machine with Linux pre-configured (even Dell will do
one for you AFAIK), just like most people who buy Win pre-installed. Of
course once you do get Linux installed you will be glad to know you
won't have to re-install it every year (sore point with me as my '98
partition is getting flaker & slower, week by week). Linux is also a
little more useable with out a GUI....

Yeah - I call it a problem when you can't run GIMP under Windows <g>.
I agree that it is a major problem with Linux that none of the
development tools are near as good as Delphi, but I am encouraged by
Linux having a great range of DB's (Oracle, Interbase, Postgress etc) so
if we can get a decent Java development tool then we could be really in
business. Mmmh - what was that I heard about a Java byte code compiler
back end to Delphi....
