In all seriousness Vista is a pig with resources. If you get a fast quad core computer and 4GB of RAM and configure Vista so it doesn't do stupid things (eg constantly re-index everything on your hard drive while you are trying to develop) then it might be OK. Might. I've got a fast dual core laptop with 4GB of RAM plus Vista SP1 and after about a year of use (all Windows OS get slower with use) it is now as slow as my previous single core laptop with 2GB of RAM and Windows XP which had 2 years of use when I stopped using it. And then there are the other stupid user interface 'features' of Vista which make simple things much harder to do than they should be. Your mileage may vary of course - if you find Vista is fast and great for you then let us know! Cheers, David. We use Virtual PC here and OS in those sessions only get access to 1 CPU and are not as fast as the main OS. I would install Windows Vista and develop in it as it uses RAM and extra CPUs much better than XP. Run Linux in a virtual machine if you need to. I believe Intel CPUs are offering the most 'bang' at the moment. Widows 7 should be out soon also, apparently the performance is much improved over any other recent Windows.
