Normally Suspend/Sleep. If I go travelling I Hibernate, and restart every time Windows updates or Firewall updates ask me to - which is fairly often.
Suspend is fast. Get around suspend/resume losses by saving everything before suspend, and logging titles of open windows in case it don't resume. (Was annoying enough I wrote a program to do logging and suspend in one hit). I don't know if MS or anyone else has ever really nailed suspend. The Vista sleep/suspend is a I think a hybrid where some (but not all) is saved to disk before sleeping. After a day or more off, you find it has automatically hibernated - whether it has to fire up again to do that and overheat if its in a bag I don't know (XP was likely to do that). I suspect from experience its good to leave it run until it really is off before picking it up - movement of the HD while going to sleep may make it less likely to resume What are others experience with suspend/sleep? Is OSX better - I get the impression it may be. Linux?
