I mean specific--as in, instead of a player writing down "I take > 6 damage", they write down "I have a light wound to my left arm" or > something. What you are describing sound rather like the sort of systems used in Fantasy LARP (live action role playing). Because people physically hit each other (with latex weapons) location damage is a vital part of any hit point/damage system. I used to play at a LARP game in Chiselhurst called Labyrinth. They used a system with two types of hit points. Total body life points and location points. In their system the locations were head, left arm right arm, left leg, right leg, upper body and lower body. All the locations had equal amounts of hit points (these were a lot lower than the total body life points). Anything that hit a location would subtract points from that location AND the total body life points. Magic spells (like magic missiles), poison and other general effects would subtract points ONLY from the total body life points. If total body life points went down below zero you were dead (I'm sure you could still keep the 0 to -10 system of d20). If an arm or leg went down to zero, it was hanging on by a thread and couldn't be used, if it went below zero it was chopped off. If your head or either of the body locations went down to zero you were unconsious and if they went below zero you were dead. So you could kill someone either with massive general damage or targeted damage to their head or body. I suggest you have a search for Fantasy LARP as you are bound to find several alternative systems that might interest you. Sci-Fi LARP systems like my group use are less likely to assist you as many use Lazer Tag (an electronic combat system) which just gives you 6 hit points!
