Perhaps that would have been better stated as "Spent
time on creating the story".

CRPGs
Why not? What's wrong with having a standard? Cool thing is, it's a
modifiable
standard. I don't have to make up any new rules, and I can program away
using someone elses well thought out rules framework. My design docs are
half done!

Don't know - Haven't played pnp RPG's since college, and don't follow them.
But if his game was good, the underlying framework doesn't really matter,
does it?
Sure "slapping it on" would be a bad plan. But adding your own
skills/feats/spells/
and character classes in an intelligent manner on top of the D20
framework... That
would be a different matter. Remember, he doesn't have to say it's D20, and
he
can then use the framework however he wants.

Opposing viewpoints do not make you a troll, Alex.
Just what bugs you about the license? Remember, it's
seperate from the D20 license.

Subject: RE: [Open_Gaming] Rant #2
they've spent the time on creating content instead of having to make rules
from scratch.
Ugh...Rules ARE content. Do you think Robin Law's FENG SHUI would have been
better if he'd just slapped Secret Wars onto the D20 system? What extra
content would he have given us that could have made up for the beautiful
elegance of the shot system of initiative and the named/unnamed dichotomy of
NPCs? I just think you are plain wrong, and if this is the 'gain' from the
D20 movement... ugh.
And we're supposed to celebrate that D20 will become the de facto for CRPGs,
too? Good lord... not on my watch. No way.
Well, this will be my last message. I don't want to be the troll on a list
where people who obviously have thought things through but come to very
different conclusions than I have.
Signing off,
Alex
