Subject: Re: [Open_Gaming] Final Text of Approved Open Gaming License
<< OK Let me say this again so that nobody is confused. I have *no problem
at
all* with WotC controlling the OGL. It is exactly what I would expect, and
it is certainly reasonable.
The only problem I have is with a statement that expressly states to first
time visitors to the OGL site that this is not the case. >>
And this is exactly why I'm confused. That is not what the statement says.
It says:
"The Open Gaming Foundation is a private organization, and it not managed by
or overseen by Wizards of the Coast or any other game publisher."
Ignoring Ryan's little typo, this says nothing about who owns or controls
the OGL.
Now I read your other message, where you explain why you think there's
confusion. You might be right. I'd have to hear from some confused people to
be convinced.
But the opening statement in itself is technically accurate. If you want to
protest that FURTHER statements should be made, making clear the
relationships between OGF, OGL, and Wizards, I think your point is more
valid. Nowhere on the site itself is there any claim that anyone but Wizards
owns the license; but if you feel some people out there are confused, that
could be a reason for more explanation.
I think that, by concentrating on the factually correct statement and not on
the confusion, you give people the impression that you yourself suffer from
the confusion. Certainly that was the impression I had; and thus, I was all
set to patiently explain the difference to you, when your other messages
made clear that you know the difference.
