Well as a long time subscriber of this list and a "fan" producer, I can say
the OGL, with PI included has been great for me.
I have "published" all my free netbooks under pseudonyms, or under my real
name if they were very generic, simply because I remember the net purges of
the early and mid 90's. A lot of good quality fan work (and a tens time
that in garbage) went to Great Server in the Sky. I can remember going to
MPGN ftp site and Morpheus' TSR free site very fondly.
Now under the OGL I can produce my witches books, get them out there and not
worry about getting sued as long as I follow the rules.
And PI? Well I hate most the "Worlds" out there. Hate is too strong, but I
don't use them. I have my own that I have used for 15+ years, and I have
never purchased a Realms product. Besides I have a few hundred years of
European witch hysteria to draw on, and a few thousand years of magical
traditions, all historical, all public domain, all mine! ;)
To be fair, I have really like a lot of the stuff from SSS and Necromancer
Games, and I would like to use some of that stuff, but it is not worth the
potential problems when I can create something new and unique that suits my
purpose just as well. And Maggie, I would still love to see Dunandralis, if
it is still going.
Sure I have made some missteps, but people here have been to kind (or to
eager) to point them out. Hopefully my full d20 witch book will be good
with the legal end and great for the players and GM's out there.
Oh, I was also one of those people who pulled his feats from Brad's netbook,
not because of the OGL or anything (I was a big supporter then as well) but
simply because I wanted to re-work them. So far they look great, and they
will (as the rest og my book) 100% open content.
