But a > "commonality of appearance" sounds more good than bad. I have been following every word of this discussion as most of you have, and I think this is one of the smartest things that has been said in regards to the whole thing. It brings me back to my ankheg question of 3 or 4 months ago (that almsot started and would have started this same type of discussion - if any cared a hoot for ankhegs the way they do Mind Flayers). Just what could I confer from the stat-block. The answers were just exactly like this mind flayer discussion (vague and heated), so I finally decided to use creatures from SRD sparingly or not at all. If my two creature developers ever come to life, then my book will only contain a few of the stat blocks from SRD that have been converted to Mutazoid's stats to show how easily it can be done, but it is completely pointless to try to include any creature as a main important race that I can never illustrate or describe properly. Like everyone I love Mind Flayers, and I wanted to do a d20 module based around a group of Mind Flayers reaching Mutazoids Earth accidently. I might still be able to eke one out, but it may not be very good. I might as well just develop an entirely new alien creature from scratch using an empty stat-block, and then keep all my description and culture completely proprietary too. People can use my stat block and make the GM buy my book to get the rest of the information and illustrations, but they will prolly just do me like they are doing WOTC, you know, whatever works. LOL.
