Same old circular response. I'm not sure that anybody has asked more more free stuff Jasyn. I'm also not sure that anybody has claimed that they lack the creative ability to do something themselves. I'm not sure you understand the actual problem. The actual problem is one that your response doesn't address at all, namely:
- WotC have provided the Illithiad in the SRD, minus descriptions and background info found in the MM.
- Almost every every player has a concept of what an Illithiad is, based on their reading of the MM, which is likely to be at the table of every game where such a creature is likely to be used.
- Despite the fact that WotC decided to include the Illithiad in the SRD, it's extremely unlikely that any module writer could reasonably use it, since they're not allowed to incorporate any pictures, descriptions, or background material that are derived from the MM.
- This means that a module writer either diverges (comes up with a race essentially different - demonstrably not compatible with the MM descriptions), and is better off giving it a different name altogether, so as not to be confused with the Illithiad in the MM. Net result? Why bother to include an Illithiad in the SRD in the first place.
Bottom line: The issue is the opposite of having insufficient creative ability to do your own work. If you're going to have a creature in your module named an "Illithiad", you're better off simply saying something like "There is an Illithiad here", giving the statblock, and leaving it at that. Any creative ideas you have, building on what your players expectations of an Illithiad are, are likely to be a copyright violation of the MM. If you get creative in a legal sense, you probably owe it to the players to rename the race of the creature (so as not to confuse them). Back to the pevious point: Why bother to have the Illithiad in the SRD?
