The more we work on the Action! System Open License (let's not worry about how that acronym might be pronounced for now, thanks <G>) the more we realize that our goals and the goals of WotC's OGL are almost the same. While it's true that we want to maintain a level of control over the use of the Action! System in other products, it seems as though using the same arrangement that WotC uses (via their d20 STL) can accomplish that.

I admit that I had originally wanted to create a separate, distinctive license for several reasons, this has proved to be problematic, resulting in a much longer delay in finalizing the Action! System license than I had anticipated.

After long discussion, we find ourselves asking (as Ryan alluded to in a recent post), "Why *not* release the Action! System rules under the OGL and simply finish development of our Action! System Developer's Guide ("ASDG"; essentially our own version of the STL for our own trademarks and "product identity")?

So I put the same question to you all here on the list...

Why not release the Action! System rules under the OGL? We accomplish our goal of making it open content, and via our ASDG we can outline requirements for use of the trademarks. I have a few concerns but I am interested in your thoughts. Good or bad, what do you think the overall effect would be?
