OK, I see your point. Ultimately (especially with cross-platform
compatibility in mind) it will break down into a database of
GL_RENDERER/VENDOR strings associated with bugs/driver
shortcomings (as well as PCI vendor/device ID's), and such
a lookup table is well beyond the scope of the ABI effort.

If not a recommendation of a canonical layout or recommended
tokens, we could at least politely ask vendors to list the
layout (if any) they stick to. That's developer relations,
not ABI.

In fact, Loki's most pressing needs are to identify the passhtru 
(VG/V2) legacy for special loos of focus prevention. Beyond
that, I see games we port checking for (Win32) driver strings
and disable features according to hardware/driver shortcomings.
Plus we now have to identify software Mesa and exit :-).

Not worth an in-depth discussing even for worst case scenarios.
