[Winona Online Democracy]
Dan,
I think it is interesting that you've identified a problem, but take a
position (albeit, a bit tongue-in-cheek) that a community shouldn't work
together to resolve it simply because the problem should not exist. If
people don't work together to resolve problems in their community (whether
the problems are the result of complex issues or of simple stupidity), the
problems will not get resolved. (This assumes the unlikelyhood of
spontaneous global enlightenment ;-)
Actually, whether you like it or not; you are already working with a group
to help resolve your problem. By posting it to the list and discussing it
with a group of your neighbors, you have helped publicize your issue and
encouraged people to reflect on their driving habits. I suspect that this
is not unlike what happens when other groups of people decide to get
together face-to-face and organize around a problem.
So now that you've organized your group and achieved your first goal
(raising community awareness of your issue); I guess my question is . . .
what do you have planned next for your group?
