Ric,

I have figured that out myself. My character has place in the mortal
bloodline thanks to Josie's work and has a SanGio Sire and even a Sibling
but has had little real attachment to the family yet. If you ask why, it
is because seldom when I am on IRC are there any SanGios other than that
adorable Mewpet. When I originally approached people about my character
being SanGio about the best thing I can say is I experienced mostly two
reactions:
1) no response at all.
2) outright hostility in the SanGio OOC room.

Josie was a treasure in working with me, rather than dictating things to me.
There was other people that tried to help you. The response we got back at
first was "No one knows the PC it was kept away from the family" and the like.
We just tried to stress, we were trying to help, and the long lost child
thing was wearing thin, since it seems to happen once a month for the last
year.
And 75% of those turned out real bad.

It gets more confusing when those long lost kids, start being older than
almost every other PC out there, when the family was even more tight than it
should be now.

Building the family is a wonderful thing and I embrace that
wholeheartedly. On the other hand it was rather hard to retrofit in a
chronicle length character (and I actually talked to the DPotM MST when
the chronicle opened about being SanGio.. but he said "wait until it is
created") into the family, though he was designed as best as I was able to
from the initiation of the chronicle.

This character that I play now, was made long before the book came out. I
was told as long as I put the Sangiovanni name on the sheet, but play under a
new name, in case what I wrote did not fit the right up, there would be no
issue.
I had no issue changing what needed to be change to help out a handful of
people here and there. When we started getting larger numbers, it was harder
for
everyone else to change to fit just one person. I told another player a long
time ago. We can all change a little to help you, but you need to change
some things to fit in with us too. It's a two way street.

All that stated, I highly agree that new characters should be a part of
the Family proper. However, I think you are right that saying it softer
would go a long way to ensuring that OOC family relations begin on the
right foot as well

It would And a lot of that is lost on email. When we ran into Tim at ICC
this year, we dragged him along for a drink, got him to the meetings, help
worked with him, got an idea of what he needed, put the standard warnings of
"We
don't do long lost family members, who were raised by pygmie midgets in New
Gini, then embraced out of family, but want to part of the whole"
A lot of that gets lost in the tone of email or IRC.

You are talking to players who spent lots of years, money, and time trying
to get this as close as we can to the book, which has a few gaps (which we are
not getting answers for from a higher power) try to get it and keep it
together, keep it fun, and keep it safe IC.

>From day one we had the "I was kidnapped and came back" then have that
player say it's not what they wanted, they wanted Giovanni and we should
rewrite
the whole thing now and kill off the PCs that say no. We got the "I am LS
status 5, you have to like me, and let me in, just because I have LS status,
but
want nothing to do with being family" and so on and so on.
