I can understand how that can jade people as you end up giving out the same cookie cutter responses. When I first heard back I can only say that the wording used tended to be hostile and even offensive as I think even mewpet can attest to. Other people did end up helping me and I am partway to where I would like to be and am looking forward to integrating still further. > > This character that I play now, was made long before the book came out. To counterpoint that, however, I was told at the time that I talked with the DPotM at the beginning of the chronicle to avoid even mentioning the name SanGiovanni until it was formally written up, that it was a potentially actionable offense. Therefore, I did exactly that, but left a loose enough background to permit some sort of retrofit when it became possible. It would And a lot of that is lost on email. When we ran into Tim at ICC this year, we dragged him along for a drink, got him to the meetings, help worked with him, got an idea of what he needed, put the standard warnings of "We don't do long lost family members, who were raised by pygmie midgets in New Gini, then embraced out of family, but want to part of the whole" A lot of that gets lost in the tone of email or IRC. You are talking to players who spent lots of years, money, and time trying to get this as close as we can to the book, which has a few gaps (which we are not getting answers for from a higher power) try to get it and keep it together, keep it fun, and keep it safe IC. >From day one we had the "I was kidnapped and came back" then have that player say it's not what they wanted, they wanted Giovanni and we should rewrite the whole thing now and kill off the PCs that say no. We got the "I am LS status 5, you have to like me, and let me in, just because I have LS status, but want nothing to do with being family" and so on and so on. Don't get me wrong, I did play a Giovanni last chronicle. Worse, I played a Pisanob. However I know the differences between the families and the chronicles and wanted to work with people. My own OOC approach is one of slowly learning new things and slowly fitting in. In the NW, in my experience, doing otherwise results in characters quickly being gacked and I prefer not to have that happen. I am not trying to rewrite the SanGiovanni into anything other than how they currently are. Heck, it is seldom I even write up for Regional approval items, though I do have a few (like the Bloodline or I wouldn't be here :) ). What I am mostly saying is that I am happy to be here and I am interested in being even more a part of the Family. I know that V. is a lesson that the first persons into the family are still hurting from but to be beating each new person about it gets old. It is simpler to say something like the following: Frequently in the Camarilla is it all about each player having a character that is a unique snowflake. This Family is designed to be different, to act as a unified family unit, tightly knit even if it isn't in lockstep with each other. The Family does not as a rule Avus outside of their mortal family nor outsight of very carefully chosen individuals. It is a very exclusive, Chosen bloodline indeed. That said, there are those that are currently playing characters not quite in line with the Family. To this extent, what is currently being sought for SanGiovannis are those to continue the Family line, to expand the Family. There may be positions open in the future within the Family for the unique snowflake but not at the current time. Please feel free to talk to SanGiovanni players to discuss possible ways that you could be related and have been fostered within the Family rather than look to play another unique snowflake. I believe that wording to be less offensive and less off-putting than some of what I have heard.
