The Windows version of Docbook does NOT do a good job of creating the docs, but it is ok for syntax checking. The build machine uses Fedora 6 to create the docs. Any of the Linux distributions do a good job creating the docs but the makefile is definitely set up to work with Fedora or Red Hat the best. When you install those distributions just be sure to install the documentation components (it is one of the major options during a Fedora/RH install).? I agree with Rick about commiting your changes and then building on the Build Machine. I sometimes do that even though run Linux. If I am in a hurry it works well to have the Build Machine do the work and then fetch the output and make the corrections later. FYI - The ooRexx docs are in DocBook XML format. What that means to you is that everything has to eventually have a closing tage to match the opening tag. DocBook is really easy to learn but there are some drawbacks. The tags are really verbose (my pet peeve) and the tag set is extensive. I would purchase the one an only book on DocBook by Walsh and Muellner. It is somewhat dated but it covers about 90% of what you need to know. There might even be a PDF of the book somewhere on the web. In any case, the (updated) book is always available in HTML format at http://www.docbook.org/tdg5/en/html/docbook.html. BTW, the Build Machine will soon be undergoing a MAJOR overhaul. The only thing I am waiting on is the release version of VMware Server 2.0. Once it goes live I will completely rebuild the Build Machine. This could take as long as a week so I will let everyone know when I start and when it is complete. Thanks, W. It's possible to build on Windows, but they're not real usable, but if all you're looking to do is check for syntax errors, it's probably ok. But just committing the changes and using the build machine to build does that same thing. I do the same thing Mark does and commit the changes and use the build machine much of the time. If I know I'm going to immediately fix any errors turned up, that's an acceptable solution.
