So... if I were to spec out an SPI PROM interface, would anyone be

If people want to help, I'll describe in detail the interface and how
it should behave.
This is a potential milestone: OGP is considering starting to code in HDL.
Admittedly Timothy could do it quickly and easily. But letting us use it
to learn on... Not often do you get chances to work on a project like
this, with the management of an experienced project lead and with the
help of some experienced guys.
For those considering using this to learn, think about this.. you will
be able to say to an employer you have real experience with a real
project (Of course not overlooking the experienced ones reading the list
who are willing to help with advice and code). And if you qualify for a
developers OGD1 - it is a card with bandwidth and a big fpga that you
can do very interesting stuff with.
two questions for now..
1. For the modules, what code will you accept - verilog or/and vhdl? ( I
can do basic vhdl, but willing to learn.)
2. What software and editing program do you recommend. Looking at some
free ones..
Lattice free ispLever Starter runs on win2k or XP. It does install on
wine 0.9.12 (not wine 0.9.13), and regrettably doesn't seem to run quite
yet - though wine may not be far off. Will try it on wine 0.9.14 soon.
Quartus free Web software requires Windows XP or Windows 2000 (not tried
on wine). http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=4161 says an
earlier version of wine did succeed with a compile.
Xilinx ISE Webpack does work on 32bit Red Hat Enterprise 3 systems,
though I have yet to try it on centos or mandrake. I could order a
centos cd if needed..
http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=24
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=2501 the webpack 7.1 is
rumored to have mostly worked.
With some things we may at first be temporarily stuck with windows, ebay
has quite a few win2k installs for about $50-60 etc but I guess as this
project gathers steam, the added interest may help them more clearly see
the need to offer their free software on linux, and those who can code
in C may be able to help by fixing Wine, especially if they can read the
on wiki how to test it.
If we do go ahead with this, I could add some links and stuff to the
wiki for those willing to lean and help out. Include some basics on how
to start and then on to eventually documenting how to simulate etc.
Others willing to help with documenting as we go would be good too.
