This may be nitpicking, but: isn't your project about *creating*
something free (libre), as opposed to 'liberating something that is not
free'?

Reading 'liberation' actually reminds me of groups like the 'Liberation
Front of Palestine' (Monty Python, Life of Brian).  That is, people
trying to liberate people/stuff that is already there, but not free.

I would consider this an offensive undertaking.  Because the stuff that
already exists -- in your case hardware made by ATI, Nvidia... well,
it's not yours.  But clearly you don't want to 'liberate' ATI cards.
You are creating a libre alternative.  I suggest to use a name
describing the free/libre nature of your design, and avoid the term
'liberation'.  IMO the term "free" is just fine.  It has known
shortcomings, but it is also commonly used, despite those shortcomings. 
(Sorry for my poor wording.)
