The display doesn't need to be color unless you are putting up color
photos of the candidates.

Sure, but red/green color deficiency can manifest as an inability to distinguish between red and green, so there might not be enough contrast for some folks to read the screen at all.

(Of course, I am now veering way off the main topic. :)
