Subject: [Open-graphics] [urgent] OGD1, need help with gumstix, quickly
Some help with the gumstix -- this is getting clunky, so I will just
subscribe to the list on this other email.
I would suggest we use the 60 pin connector on ODG1, for 4 reasons:
1) It is on every gumstix variety, which gives us more compatibility;
2) It only has 50 IO signals (exc. USB), so it can easily be used;
3) It has the LCD controller on it; if needed, the ODG can act as a screen.
4) It allows the gumstix 92/120 pin cards to still be used, so we can get
wireless, ethernet, etc for the ODG -- if we attach to the 92/120 pin
connector, then one cannot also attach e.g. a netMMC to that same
gumstix.
The disadvantage, of course, is that we don't have a high speed comm.
interface. We can still get 1Mbit+ async and synchronized serial and
also the LCD port, which I assume can be used for general framed data
with some clever device driver. Finally, there is a USB connection that
could be used for something, but probably won't be.
This is the 60 pin connector used on all the new (currently being sold)
gumstix:

It also appears as if the 92 pin connector:

does not have a reset signal, which is interesting -- same with the
120 pin connector.
Finally, just one of a countless number of things that it can be used for:
attach a CMOS imager to the interface on the 120 pin connector, then
shove it out of the LCD controller. Instant video in, kinda!
Hope that helps!
