An additional word about the stability of the connectors.
I have here a few 40 pin variants of the DF12 and they are
quite stable even without boss, so if you are tight on
space you could choose one of those. But then you should
provide vias as near as possible to at least a third of the
pads to anchor them down to the board. especially those at
the edge of the connector. Otherwise there is a risk of tearing
the pads apart.

What should be definitly there are holes for screws as the
connectors have a very low pluging resistance. I think 2 M2
screws should be enough, if you have space, make them 4.
