Assuming you know C fairly well, a good way to learn about Linux
kernel code is to read the Linux Device Drivers book, which can be
legitimately downloaded for free at http://lwn.net/Kernel/LDD3/

It's basically the semi-official (I think) documention for device
driver writers, and I'm finding it informative.
