Robert Love's book is a good introduction to kernel development,
but if you want to do serious driver development, then LDD3 is
required reading.
I also recomend "Understanding the Linux Kernel" by Bovet and Cesati,
it gives more details on the interaction of the different subsystems
of the kernel than LDD3.

Becoming a kernel hacker isn't hard. Staying up to date is ^^;
If you do not already, you should read lwn's kernel[1] pages each
week. Otherwise your knowledge will become outdated in a few months
time. You should also check the API changes page[2] for things that
might have changed since LDD3 was written. But be aware that not
100% all API changes are listed there.
