Maybe I'm biased from my own rate of progress, but IMHO, the schematic editor 
(let alone the entire HIDE) would be too much for two months for a single 
student. We should split it into several individual projects somehow. What 
parts can be worked on simultaneously?

Alternatively, we could specify that the project goal is a prototype. A 
prototype would still be very useful to us for playing with the look and feel 
to flesh out the exact requirements of the final IDE.

Another project idea, which should be easier to complete in two months, would 
be the graphical timing diagram editor discussed some time ago.
