I would definitely appreciate more info, so I too can change sound settings if the defaults aren't great. Perhaps they are on currently, but we always have our circ desk computer speakers off to avoid blasting noise from those pesky internet ads. But our designated check *IN* station is rarely used for anything but. This could be very helpful!

I think they're enabled by default. If you plug speakers in to the computer or turn up the sound, you should hear them. I will say, however, that the default confirmation sound for a successful checkin is pretty soft, so our systems staff replaced it with something more audible.
