We are all going to have different ideas on what we want OpenCard to be. This is why I
think it would be good to get a generic xTalk interpreter coded. This way we could
perhaps
split up the development into different OpenCard projects.
Proposed Suggestions for Different OpenCard Applications.
- Wired sprite editor for QuickTime 3.0. Like LiveStage.
- Web development. A visual constructor for web content that can be programmed with
xTalk
and spits out Java, Java Script and HTML.
- Multimedia application. Like HyperCard with stacks, cards and backgrounds.
- RAD programming xTalk compiler. A set of programming tools that lets you develop
fast in
xTalk and compile applications. No sexy interface. Just a compiler, text editor and
language set.
The advantage of having these as separate applications have several advantages.
- The subset of the xTalk language could be tailored for the application. A lot of
commands that apply for web don't apply for multimedia applications and vica versa.
- The projects would be smaller and easier to develop than one overloaded programme.
- People could develop the application they are most interested in using themselves.
The major disadvantage of having several projects is we don't really have enough
programmers to spread over numerous applications.
Hmmm...
I think we need a general xTalk interpreter as fast as we can get one. I want to get to
work.
