 grumble. I'd prefer if it was officially unsupported. I mean, if you feel
like it, drag it along, but it shouldn't be part of any regression tests
(that is, any host should be allowed to error on a variable declaration).
There might Always be an Anthony who says "I'll also update variable
declarations so they still work", but this should be that person's private
fun. I consider variable declarations inelegant. I'd prefer if we kept them
out of the language officially so we can simply drop them when a better
solution presents itself.

 I'd prefer "rational [number]" and "integer". Mathematically correct and
English. "real" also has another meaning in English, so who cares?
