Both end up on the system. The NetBeans tools deliver 5.5, SunStudio
delivers 5.5.1 as it has dependencies on this version.

It requires 5.5.1.

We aren't trying to route around it. It is the configuration of the
SunStudio product today. Currently, the Solaris installer gets a script
and some tar files from the tools team and we call the script to do the
installation for us. I agree that we need to get our NetBeans and
SunStudio story straight, but this product is delivered outside of the
install groups domain. We have asked the tools team to provide pkgs so
that we can clean things up appropriately and upgrade correctly as well.
It is unclear whether these will be available by the time Dwarf
integrates so I noted the current behavior. I hope it will get
straightened out before we deliver Dwarf. This is the current developer
express tools installation behavior, FYI.
