I think the intent is that SXDE is a pre-release vehicle for the Sun Studio 12 compilers. Work is being done internally to get this to build OpenSolaris. SunStudio 11 will not be installed with an initial installation of SXDE2. Users can however download it and install it themselves. At a minimum, we need to release note the issues.
The decision to deliver SunStudio 12 was made by the SXDE core planning team. I agree that we have a potential issue here but I will point you to this team for further discussion related specifically to this. And, no, I am not copping out on this...
