Well, its probably not a requirement on the Solaris PAC's radar, but whatever SunStudio version delivered with SXDE should also be able to build the OpenJDK sources, which although in a different community space, are certainly part of the Solaris world.
I've been trying to build OpenJDK on a number of systems. Most take quite a few steps (and some I'm not sure are possible yet). By far the simplest was the last SXDE, which was basically install it, download the OpenJDK sources, set a few environment variables and you were off and running. I think this makes Sun and Solaris look very good it the eyes of the community. If this isn't true of the next SXDE, we need to do something about that at the PAC level. I'm not sure it is really this case, but this may be our only way to bring it to their attention. - jek3
