Thanks for the long explanation.

My concern is that things are not moving at a good enough pace, they are not going in the right direction and the slow pace is due to Sun's highly bureaucratic governance.
Please bear in mind the the CAB members also have day jobs. It is a
significant achievement to get where we are today in the short time the
project has been running.
One way to move things faster would be a full time CAB, but that's
unlikely until other companies take enough of an interest to sponsor
members. Other opensource projects have numerous commercial
participants, gcc being a good example.
I don't see this as a bureaucratic issue, just a time and resource one.
Secondly the process isn't open and inviting enough - The complete Solaris development has to be opened up - Sun Engineers need to develop and discuss in the open - otherwise how will aspiring folks get to know the technology and understand the development model?
Knowing what is being developed would be a great help, some sort of on
going project list. This would help prevent duplication of effort. I'm
mainly thinking of drivers here, I'd like to contribute some, but don't
want to work on something that is already being worked within Sun.

Now people are saying here that it is natural enough for such a project to take time to be opened up fully - but no one has clearly explained exactly what is taking time. People have done amazing things in less time if you look else where.
Legal and sheer volume!
