Thank you all for your suggestions. Here's what I've been able to determine.
I tried to follow the instructions found at http://opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/wireless/iwi/ to download and install the iwi driver, but as I read in other posts and soon confirmed, the files already existed on my system and I aborted the installation of the downloaded files. When following James' instructions below, I found that only three interfaces exist. Two of which are loopbacks (lo0: interfaces) and one which is my wired interface (bge0:). There is no wireless interface or anything with the name iwi. The scan-wifi command returned nothing (just got another prompt). When I try the command "ifconfig iwi0 plumb", I get the error "ifconfig: connot open link "iwi0": DLPI link does not exist" How can I get the OS to recognize the wireless card? -Z -----Original Message----- From: James Carlson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 17, 2008 1:08 PM To: Mr. Z Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [osol-discuss] New to Solaris Mr. Z writes: > I've installed the 2008.05 build on my old Dell Inspiron 600m, which uses an > Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card. Try running these commands to see if there's an "iwi0" interface present. pfexec ifconfig -a pfexec dladm show-link pfexec dladm scan-wifi > Now, as I mentioned already - this is my very first attempt at using a > Linux/Unix OS. It's likely that there's a configuration problem. > As a side note - I've always felt that no matter what your OS, anti-virus > software should be installed. Can someone point me to an Open Source A/V > application that I can install and run on OpenSolaris? Good luck on that. Unless you're scanning for viruses in Windows files that you're storing on your OpenSolaris system, I don't think such a thing reasonably exists.
