I run OpenSolaris on an Inspiron 600m too, although I replaced the 2200
card with an Atheros card because it has better driver support (I think
it's still true that you can't use WPA with the iwi driver).
One thing that confused the heck out of me a few times is that if you
have wireless disabled (controlled by the BIOS menu and/or by pressing
Fn-F2) the wifi device does not appear. I don't even know how that
happens - I always imagined that Fn-F2 just disabled the radio circuit
or something and I'd still be able to configure the device, but somehow
it entirely stops the device from being seen by the system.
So make sure that the blue LED is on before you run dladm show-link or
otherwise try to configure networking.
